Tris and Trey had a half day of school a couple days ago, so we took advantage of it and got over to the club to do some target shooting. Our range is open only on weekdays and only until three o’clock as a courtesy to the surrounding neighborhoods, making it tough for the boys to get over there.
They got their Ruger semi-automatics last Christmas. They’ve been handling firearms since they were big enough to hold one. I’m a firm believer that the more exposure to guns a child has, the less of a novelty it becomes, reducing his curiosity. My boys learned early that guns can be lethal when handled or used improperly. Our guns come out only when it’s time to hunt, target practice, clean them, or God forbid, protect our home.
Many folks are unaware that our forefathers established priorities when assembling our Bill of Rights. First and foremost was the right to speak what you believe. Our second most important right, according to those great men, was the right to bear arms. It was put there at number two for a reason… in case anyone tried to take away the first.
